Volvo turned 96 last month. Australia was one of only a handful of global markets chosen to help lead the celebrations – and picked a suitably iconic backdrop to mark the big day.
Volvo Cars marked its 96th birthday last month – with Australia just one of four global markets outside of Australia picked to help deliver the inaugural Volvo Cars Day – live streamed to 43,000 plus employees around the world.
There was only one fitting backdrop for the event: Sydney harbour, an iconic and perfectly fitting location.
The Harbour Bridge was midway through construction when the very first Volvo car rolled off the production line in April 1927.

Meanwhile, construction work on the Sydney Opera House began in 1959 – the same year that Volvo engineer Nils Bohlin invented the modern three-point safety system, and gave it to the world via open patent, saving countless lives as a result.
“It was a huge honour to be chosen to co-host,” said Volvo Car Australia MD, Stephen Connor, who led the celebrations with the local team and the carmaker’s brand ambassadors Amy Shark (pictured) and Matt Shirvington.
“What a day, what a spectacular venue,” added Connor. “Here’s to what comes next.”
