‘The best keeps getting better’ – XC40 wins Best Small Luxury SUV, again

The XC40 is officially the best small luxury SUV in Australia, according to esteemed judges at Drive. That’s three years running. Here’s what they had to say.

Volvo Car Australia’s best-selling model has made it a hat-trick of wins, this month being crowned 2023 Drive Car of the Year – Best Small Luxury SUV, for the third year running.

It’s a tough category to win even once. Because a small luxury SUV is the first step into higher quality motoring, carmakers tend to throw-in everything they can to capture customers for life at an extremely competitive price point. Every year, every manufacturer tries to raise the bar.

Volvo Car Australia held off BMW and Volkswagen-owned Cupra to win again in 2023. Volvo is not particularly renowned for blowing its own trumpet, so here’s what Drive had to say:

“The best car in its segment just keeps getting better.”

“The Volvo XC40’s minimalist interior presentation focuses on high-quality materials and impeccable quality."

"A true benchmark of compact luxury, the Volvo XC40 continues to offer an unrivalled quality experience for SUV buyers."

At home in the city or the country, the XC40 brings together the latest intuitive tech and comfort usually reserved for larger, more expensive SUVs.

Per Drive’s write up (read it here):

“Though they may be small, running updates to the Volvo XC40 impressed judges with its revised styling, simplistic infotainment system and subtle year-on-year tweaks that combine to make an already great vehicle even better.

“Above all, the Volvo XC40’s value equation stood out. Consider the fact the 2023 Volvo XC40 range kicks off from just over $50,000, then look at the powerful engine under the bonnet, feature inclusions, and premium materials – it’s a wonder how Volvo is able to offer so much for so little.”

Volvo Cars’ CFO keeps asking the same question.
