‘A Swedish living room on wheels’: Volvo Cars’ new electric MPV

Volvo Cars is launching a new all-electric people carrier, or MPV. It’s billed as a Swedish living room on wheels.

Volvo EM90

Volvo Cars is launching its first ever fully electric MPV on 12 November, when it will take orders for customers in China. But the launch is described as global, which suggests the new EM90 model, described as a ‘Swedish living room on the move’, may ultimately arrive in other key markets.

Ahead of the launch, Volvo Cars is keeping details under wraps.

What has been publicly released is that it’s big, premium and is “designed for you to make the most of the time spent in the car”, which suggests the EM90 will be packed with tech and entertainment features.

“Volvo EM90 will become available to pre-order for customers in mainland China first,” per a spokesperson. “Other markets are being looked into.”

In response to questions about where and when the new MPV might arrive in other markets, Volvo Cars global comms team has so far given little away, but there are hints at a wider rollout.

Volvo Cars has committed to launching a new electric vehicle each year. To date, Volvo Car Australia has received 800 pre-orders for the new EX30, with deliveries planned to commence in the first quarter 2024. The all-electric seven seater EX90 is anticipated to follow later in the year.

In the meantime, those keen to get a first look at the new EM90 MPV can do so here.
