Range topper: EX90 lands in Australia

Volvo Cars’ long-awaited flagship luxury fully electric SUV is now in Australia. According to motoring experts, rivals should be feeling nervous.

Volvo EX90

Volvo Cars’ flagship EX90 seven seat all-electric SUV has landed in Australia. Volvo Cars global CEO Jim Rowan says it is “the best car Volvo has ever built”, a bold claim given the near century of brilliant cars and technical innovation since Volvo first started manufacturing in Gothenburg.

Australian reviews will start to appear in the next few days as the motoring press get their first taste of the new standard-setter in luxury large SUVs. But in the meantime, journalists around the world are effusive.

“It’s posh, without being shouty about it.”

“As practical and cleverly designed as you’d hope from Volvo. The EX90 is the best electric family SUV available right now,” according to Top Gear.

“Boy is it better thought out and more user-friendly than any other electric family SUV out there. Audi’s Q8, BMW’s iX and Merc’s EQE SUV are all premium SUVs looking for a role. This one understands exactly what it’s for.”

“Smooth and silent on the road, it’s a pleasure to drive, more wieldy than you might expect for its size and weight. It’s easy to see out of, undemanding and consumes long journeys with ease and in spectacular comfort.

“The massage seats are some of the best we’ve ever come across. Irrelevant? Not if you’re a parent. Little luxuries help assuage the squabbling in the back. And in the EX90 little luxuries are everywhere you look.”

UK review site, Honest John, rates the EX90 five out of five, a higher score than any of its large luxury SUV rivals:

“It's hard to not be impressed by the Volvo EX90. A sleek, sophisticated and practical interior is complemented by an impressive performance and supreme levels of comfort and safety tech.

“The Volvo EX90 is incredibly refined on the road, while it must have one of the quietest cabins available right now. Despite its size and weight, thanks to some clever torque-vectoring tech it can also feel pretty agile on twistier roads.”

Stuff also rates it highly.

“Anyone who’s a fan of the ever-popular Volvo XC90 should investigate the Volvo EX90. It takes the essence of what makes that SUV so great, but adds in all the benefits of an electric powertrain. The new platform works to great effect, despite its hefty 2,704kg overall weight, with a smooth and seamless drive that is complimented by lashings of premium interior comfort.

“It’s posh, without being shouty about it.”

Now available to order in Australia, with deliveries starting in April, the EX90 sets a new standard in large luxury SUVs.

It can travel up to 570km* on a single charge while packing surprisingly swift performance, making 0-100km/h in as little as 4.9 seconds.

Latest technology, including cutting edge radars and cameras that detect risks both inside and out, make it the safest car Volvo has ever built.

Inside, the EX90 showcases a modern, luxurious and uncluttered interior design with the highest quality upholstery options. Think of it as a luxurious Scandinavian living room – with the best sound system imaginable.
