Volvo XC40 Inscription: luxury evolved
The 2019 Wheels Car of the Year, the Volvo XC40, features a third trim grade that expands the appeal of a vehicle rewriting the rulebook for compact luxury SUVs.

It’s called Inscription and it’s carved into the middle of the multi-award-winning Volvo XC40 range.
Inscription takes a distinct position within the XC40 range, placed between the Momentum and R-Design trim grades.
Epitomising progressive Swedish luxury, the XC40 Inscription brings multiple layers of sophistication.
The exterior is distinguished by elements including a chrome front grille, bright lower-window trim, an ‘Inscription’ moulding on the rear pillar, and 19-inch alloy wheels with 5-double-spoke Black Diamond Cut design.
There are also exclusive paint options: Luminous Sand, Maple Brown, Denim Blue, Pine Grey. LED headlights with Auto High Beam function are shared with the R-Design XC40.

Open the front doors and you are not only greeted by a spacious cabin that defies the XC40’s relatively compact dimensions, but also metal tread plates featuring the Inscription logo, Drift Wood décor inlays, and high-level ambient lighting.
The leather accented steering wheel is complemented by leather upholstery and a distinctive Orrefors crystal gear lever. And both the driver and front passenger seat feature electric adjustment.
As with every Volvo XC40, there are ingenious storage solutions, such as under-seat storage box (driver side), glovebox with integrated flip-out bag hook, and a removable waste bin with net in the centre console.
Intuitive technology helps to make life easier and more enjoyable on the road.
For infotainment, there is Volvo’s renowned Sensus system that’s literally centred around a portrait-format 9-inch touchscreen display. Using functions such as navigation or the High Performance Audio system couldn’t be simpler.

And for a helping hand on busy city streets and freeways, there are driver aids such as blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assistance, and front collision mitigation support.
The Volvo XC40 T4 Inscription is powered by a 140kW 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine in a powertrain also comprising an eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive.
So, three brilliant choices for the Volvo XC40 that cater for your everyday needs – whether you want the contemporary style of Momentum, the evolved luxury of Inscription, or the sporty expression of R-Design.
