You can initiate the process of setting up a digital key via:
Setting up a digital key via the Volvo EX30 app
Make sure your car is in an area with mobile coverage, and that your phone has both internet connection and the latest software version. The minimum required software version of your app is 1.7.4.
Sit in the driver's seat with your phone.
Place your key card on the left side of the interior key reader.
Log in to the Volvo EX30 mobile app and go to the car tab 
> Digital key. Press Get started > Continue > Enable Digital Key.
You'll be re-directed to the Apple Wallet app.
Press Continue and follow the instructions in the Apple Wallet app.
To also add your digital key to your Apple Watch: Press Continue on your phone and follow the instructions on the screen.

Setting up a digital key via link in email
An email about digital key is sent to your Volvo ID email address when the dealer is preparing your new car for delivery. If you buy a pre-owned car, the email is sent after you've connected the Volvo EX30 app to your car. For more information, read:

Go to your email inbox and open the Volvo Digital Key email.
Press Add to Apple Wallet.
You'll be re-directed to the Apple Wallet app.
Press Continue and follow the instructions in the wallet app.
To also add your digital key to your Apple Watch: Press Continue and follow the instructions in the wallet app.

Setting up a digital key via the car's centre display
Make sure your car is in an area with mobile coverage, and that your phone has both internet connection and the latest software version. The minimum required software version in your car is 1.5.2.
Sit in the driver's seat with your phone.
Press the car symbol > Profiles. If you don't have the owner's profile selected, press the round profile icon on the top of the screen.
Select the owner profile (the first profile created).
Press Set up next to Set up digital key.
Press Set up digital key.
Place your key card on the left side of the interior key reader.
A confirmation message appears on the car's centre display when the key is successfully read.
Place your phone on the left side of the key reader until a message about car key appears on your phone.
An email is sent to your Volvo ID email address with an activation code that you'll need to use in a later step.
Press Continue with pairing code on your phone.
You'll be re-directed to the Apple Wallet app.
Enter the activation code in the email and press Next in the top-right corner of your screen.
Place your phone on the left side of the key reader until the pairing process is complete.
A confirmation message appears on the car's centre display and the Apple Wallet app when the digital key is ready to use.
