Safe Space Technology

With cutting-edge sensing technology, we aim to provide a safe space inside and around the car – for you, your passengers and others on the road. Safe Space Technology includes all the standard safety features in Volvo cars. To help keep you safe, and to make you feel safe. The first of our new generation of cars, the Volvo EX90, will come equipped with Safe Space Technology, powered by lidar, an optical device measuring distance, speed and form of an object with very high resolution using reflected light.

Our most acclaimed lifesaver

In 1959, Volvo Cars engineer Nils Bohlin introduced three-point safety belts to our cars. As one of the most important inventions in car safety, it has so far saved over one million lives.

Data-based research

Data-based research

Since the 1970s, we have studied more than 43,000 cars in real-life accidents involving approximately 72,000 people. Based on data, we have developed features that have made a substantial difference in the history of car safety.

Zero collisions

The next level of safety relies on advanced technology. Therefore, we constantly strive to raise safety levels towards our new vision, which is an ambition to have no collisions at all.

Our learning never ends...

Volvo Cars’ safety features complement safe driving practices and are not intended to enable or encourage distracted, aggressive, or otherwise
unsafe or illegal driving. Ultimately, the driver is responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle at all times. Described features may be optional and
