Using your digital key for EX30

After setting up a digital key in your phone or smartwatch, you can start using it to lock, unlock and drive your vehicle.

The functionality of your digital key varies depending on whether your vehicle supports digital key or digital key plus, and if your phone or smartwatch has UWB1 capability. For more information, read:

Using your digital key for active entry and active start

Active entry and active start means that you interact with your phone or smartwatch to lock, unlock and drive your vehicle. This works with both digital key and digital key plus.

 Note

  • The location of the exterior key reader is marked with a symbol on the pillar between the front and rear doors on the driver's side.
  • The interior key reader is located between the front seats.

Active entry and active start

You need to have your digital key open on your phone or smartwatch for each of the following steps. Double-press the side button on your phone or smartwatch, or manually open the wallet app to access your digital key.

To unlock the vehicle, hold the digital key over the exterior key reader.
Place the digital key on the left side of the interior key reader to start driving the vehicle.
Lock the vehicle by holding the digital key over the exterior key reader.

Using your digital key for passive entry and passive start

Passive entry and passive start means that you can lock, unlock and drive your vehicle without interacting with your phone or smartwatch. You can simply keep your phone in your pocket or smartwatch on your arm, without any further action. This only works with digital key plus and a phone or smartwatch with UWB1 capability.

To use passive entry and passive start, make sure that:

  • You have your phone or smartwatch with a digital key with you.
  • Bluetooth is enabled on your phone or smartwatch.
  • The passive entry feature is enabled in the wallet app.
  • The proximity lock feature is enabled in the vehicle's center display.

 Note

If the vehicle doesn't unlock as you approach it with your digital key, it may be due to a weak connection between your phone or smartwatch and the vehicle. It can also be due to that the proximity lock function is disabled in the vehicle's center display. If this happens, make sure the passive entry feature is enabled in the wallet app and simply pull the driver's door handle to unlock the vehicle.
Have your digital key present in the passenger compartment to start the vehicle.
Leave the vehicle with your digital key to lock it.

Enabling or disabling passive entry

To prevent your vehicle from unlocking and turning on the lights everytime you pass, you can disable passive entry in the wallet app. You can at anytime enable it again.

You also have the option to stop the vehicle from unlocking when you pass, while still being able to unlock it by pulling the driver's door handle. To do this, you need to disable the proximity lock feature in the vehicle's center display and enable the passive entry feature in the wallet app. Disabling proximity lock will disable the function for all devices, including phones, smartwatches, and key tags.

Open the Apple Wallet app and select your digital key.
Tap Manage digital key.
Press the i-button in the top-right corner.
Enable or disable Passive entry.

Press the car symbol Px-2037-VOC app icon Car > Controls.
Under Locking, press View all.
Under Approaching and leaving, enable or disable Proximity lock.
