Software updates

Updating your car’s software ensures that it remains up to date with the latest features and improvements.

Software updates are primarily done over the air (OTA), and all previous updates are included when you install a new update. Keep in mind that you may be charged for installing software updates at a Volvo retailer unless installation is included in your repair or service agreement.

When a new update is available, you will see a notification in the center display and in the Volvo Cars app. The notification gives you an estimate of how long it will take to install the update and tells you what’s included in it.

After installing a software update, the car’s features may vary depending on the market, model, model year and specification.

Updates in software 1.2.15

Software release date: 25 March 2025.

 Note

This update will be available as an over-the-air download about three weeks after the software release date.

 Important

After installing this update, you’ll see a message saying, “Very low range, charge vehicle as soon as possible”. You can safely ignore this message since the actual battery status will be displayed afterwards.

We’ve improved the performance of the trunk opening triggers. Now the first press of the button or foot movement under the rear bumper will trigger the trunk to open.

The alarm sensor no longer flashes while you’re driving.

We’ve fixed an issue causing the charging screen to unintentionally pop up during parking.

The center display no longer flickers when switching between day and night mode while driving.

Google security patch level has been increased to Feb. 1, 2025.

This update also contains some tweaks and fixes to:
  • Exterior lights
  • Automatic wiper sensitivity
  • AC charging
  • Seat belt and occupant presence reminders

Updates in software 1.2.6

Software release date: February 10, 2025.

 Note

This update is only available in workshops and not as an over-the-air download.

Wireless Apple CarPlay

Apple CarPlay gives you another way of using your iPhone via the vehicle's interface. You can use certain communication, navigation and media apps on your iPhone via the center display, as well as the steering wheel buttons and voice control.

Connect your iPhone to the vehicle via Bluetooth and activate Apple CarPlay. After setting up CarPlay for the first time, it automatically starts when you connect your phone via Bluetooth again.

Digital Key

Digital key is available for compatible Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices. To set up a new digital key, navigate to the owner profile in the center display, select Car Keys and Set up digital key. Then scan the QR code using your device and follow the link that appears.

You can also share a key across platforms, such as between compatible Android and Apple devices. Remember to check the compatibility of your device on the manufacturer's website and whether this feature is available in your market.

Vehicle Locator

You can use the Volvo Cars app to find your vehicle, if you leave it in a large parking lot, for example, by flashing the lights and sounding the horn remotely. Availability may depend on your region.

Improvements

You can now turn the center display off for cleaning.

If you have a distance-capable key on you, the vehicle will lock automatically when you walk away from it, and there are also improvements to automatic unlocking for when you approach the vehicle.

You can adjust the light intensity in the center display, and the settings will be stored for the next driving cycle.

After you’ve turned it on, the wireless charger will stay on until you turn if off manually.

The trunk hatch won’t close while you're unloading things from the trunk.

Heat status for the steering wheel and seat heating is now shown correctly in the center display.

It’s now possible to use the Bowers and Wilkins (B & W) app in the vehicle.

The initial wiper stroke has been removed.

The operational range for the forward collision warning system has been expanded to account for vehicles moving perpendicular to the vehicle, and it can engage autonomous braking when both vehicles are moving at speeds between 40 and 60 km/h. This change does not affect compliance with any certification regulations.

This update also contains some minor improvements and fixes. Including improvements to:
  • Hands-off detection and lane change graphics for Pilot Assist
