Care and treatment of matte paintwork

To take proper care of matte paintwork, the vehicle should be washed by hand as soon as it gets dirty. This makes it easier to clean the vehicle since the dirt is not stuck as hard. Wash the rims at a car wash or garage with an oil separator. Use cleaning agents and car care products recommended by Volvo.

Important to keep in mind when hand washing a vehicle with matte paintwork

  • Hose down the entire vehicle and remove any loose dirt, droppings etc. to reduce the risk of scratches from washing. Do not spray directly onto locks. Take extra care when using a high-pressure wash system. Make sure that you hose down the underbody, including the wheel housings and bumpers.
  • Wash the vehicle with a microfiber wash mitt, car washing detergent and plenty of lukewarm water.
  • Remove bird droppings from paintwork as soon as possible. It contains chemicals that affect and discolor paintwork very quickly.
    1. Wet the area.
    2. Rinse.
    3. Wash using a car washing detergent for matte paintwork. Use a wash mitt.
Consult an authorized Volvo workshop for assistance removing discoloration.
  • Insects, grease spots and fingerprints are best removed with a special cleaning agent for matte paintwork. Apply the cleaning agent with a microfiber cloth using slight pressure.
  • Wipe the vehicle dry with a soft, clean microfiber cloth. If water drops are allowed to dry in strong sunlight, the paintwork may develop water spots.
  • Remember to clean away dirt from the drain holes in the doors and sills after washing the vehicle.
  • Paintwork repair should only be entrusted to an authorized workshop.
  • In areas with heavy industrial emissions, more frequent washing of the vehicle's exterior is recommended.

 Important

Make sure that the doors, windows and covers are closed when using a high-pressure wash.

 Important

Never polish matte paintwork. Polishing will cause the paintwork to become shiny.

 Important

Do not use paint cleaner, abrasives, polishing products or gloss protectant e.g. wax for high-gloss paint. These products are only intended for high-gloss surfaces. If they are used on matte paintwork, shiny spots will appear on the surfaces.

 Important

  • Be careful not to get resin, grease or oil on the vehicle's paintwork. This could leave residue. Remove it immediately using cleaning agent for matte paint.
  • Spots of asphalt on the paintwork can be removed with a vegetable-based asphalt remover. Use car care products recommended by Volvo.

Proceed with caution and do not press too hard on the painted surface.

 Important

Avoid washing the vehicle in direct sunlight. This could cause the cleaning agent to dry and create streaks on a vehicle with matte paintwork.

 Important

Avoid rubbing the paint when washing and drying the vehicle. This could destroy the matte effect of the paintwork and make the paintwork permanently shiny.

 Important

Do not attach stickers to the painted surface. Adhesive residue could damage the paintwork.
