Problems with Plug & Charge

For Plug & Charge to work, both the charging station and the car need to support Plug & Charge. If you experience a problem with Plug & Charge, there are some steps you can take to try and resolve it yourself before contacting Volvo support.

Charging your car with NACS fast charging adapter

Use the NACS (North American Charging Standard) fast charging adapter at a Tesla Supercharger station for DC fast charging of your fully electric car. If you already have a Volvo public charging account, simply attach the adapter to the cable at a compatible station, plug it into your car, and enjoy all the benefits when you're on the road. The NACS fast charging adapter can be purchased at your local Volvo Cars retailer.

Charging a fully electric car

Charge the car at home via a charging station or at a public charging station.

Changing or removing your Plug & Charge contract certificate

The installed Plug & Charge contract certificate can be managed in the car's center display and the Volvo Cars app if for example you are experiencing problems with Plug & Charge, you want to sign a contract with a new e-mobility service provider, or sell your car.

Activating Plug & Charge

Before you can charge your car at a charging station that supports Plug & Charge, you need to activate the function with an e-mobility service provider and in the car's center display.

Battery and charging functions in the Volvo Cars app

In the Volvo Cars app you can find information on the vehicle's battery and charging.

Setting up public charging in the Volvo Cars app

Connect your Volvo ID to ChargePoint to access public charging in the Volvo Cars app.

Problems when charging via charging box

In some cases, the charging of your vehicle doesn't start when you have set the charging timers in the charging box. This problem occurs when you are using a charging box with smart charging functionality that isn't compatible with your vehicle.

Charging continues when the vehicle is fully charged

Under some circumstances, you may notice that your vehicle continues to charge even after it is fully charged.

Plug & Charge

Plug & Charge is an authentication and billing system that simplifies your charging experience. Charging stations that support Plug & Charge identify your car and its associated payment method as soon as you connect the charging cable to your car. This allows for charging to automatically start without the use of additional cards, apps or any other authentication methods.
