Charging your car with NACS fast charging adapter

Use the NACS (North American Charging Standard) fast charging adapter at a Tesla Supercharger station for DC fast charging of your fully electric car. If you already have a Volvo public charging account, simply attach the adapter to the cable at a compatible station, plug it into your car, and enjoy all the benefits when you're on the road. The NACS fast charging adapter can be purchased at your local Volvo Cars retailer1.

 Warning

Only use the NACS fast charging adapter for Direct Current (DC) fast charging at compatible fast charging stations. Do not use for level 1 or level 2 Alternating Current (AC) charging. The adapter is not compatible with any AC chargers, including any home or public AC chargers with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) plug type. Read the Adapter Accessories User Guide before use. Improper use could cause severe damage. Only use Volvo Cars-approved adapters.

You can find Tesla Supercharger stations that support the adapter through Google Maps in the center display or the Volvo Cars app, under the map symbol Px-2037-VOC app icon Map. Generation 3 (V3) and later Superchargers will be compatible with Volvo cars.

Starting charging with the NACS fast charging adapter

To initiate DC fast charging, make sure the car is in park (P).
Open the Volvo Cars app and go to the map symbol Px-2037-VOC app icon Map.
Press the Tesla Supercharger pin and select the station number you are parked at.
Select a connector.
If the station requires a NACS fast charging adapter, a badge saying NACS fast charging adapter required is displayed.
Select a payment method and press Start charging.
Attach the adapter to the Tesla Supercharger cable.
Remove any covers from your car's DC charging port.
Plug the adapter into your car's charging port.
When the adapter is fully inserted, you will hear a clicking sound as it locks into place.

Stopping charging with the NACS fast charging adapter

 Important

Always stop the charging session before attempting to unplug the charging cable from the car. If you don't, you may cause damage to the cable or the system.
Stop the charging session by either pressing the release button next to the charging port, or press Stop charging in the Volvo Cars app.
The charging is stopped and the adapter unlocks from the charging port.
Unplug the adapter from the car by pressing the silver button on the top of the adapter.
Reattach any protective covers to the charging port.
Unplug the adapter from the cable by pressing the release switch located under the adapter, near the attachment point.
Close the charging lid.
