Searching and checking spaces

17w26 - P5 - Support site - Park Assist Pilot - search for perpendicular parking - principle
When you have reached an area you want to park in, slow down and tap on Park In in the center display's function view or equivalent button in the camera view.
The system will now search for a suitable parking space. Continue to drive along the row of parking spaces where you want to park. Drive no faster than 20 km/h (12 mph) and no further than 1.5 meters from the other parked cars.
When the system advises via the center display that it has found a suitable parking space, follow the instructions and be prepared to stop the car completely.
Select Perpendicular parking in the pop-up window that appears in the center display, make sure that the steering wheel can move freely and engage reverse gear.

 Note

The default setting for Park Assist Pilot is to search for parking spaces on the passenger side of the car. To search for parking spaces on the driver's side, activate the driver's side direction indicators while the search for a parking space is in progress.

Reversing into a parking space

17w26 - P5 - Support site - Park Assist Pilot - perpendicular reversing - principle
With reverse gear engaged, check that there are no obstructions behind and around the car.
Reverse slowly into the space. Drive no faster than 7 km/h (4 mph) and make sure that the steering wheel can move freely. Always pay attention behind and around the car while reversing for any obstructions that may appear or if there are obstructions that the sensors have not detected. Always be prepared to brake the car if necessary.
Stop the car completely when the message advising this is shown in the center display.

 Note

Make sure that the steering wheel can move freely while Park Assist Pilot is helping to steer the car. Wait until steering wheel turning has stopped before you start to drive forward or backward. Always be prepared to take over steering if necessary.

Positioning the car in a parking space

17w26 - P5 - Support site - Park Assist Pilot - perpendicular positioning - principle
Wait until steering wheel turning has stopped and then drive as instructed in the center display.
Continue to follow the instructions in the center display and be prepared to stop and/or reverse if instructed to do so. Remember to always pay attention around the car.
When the function has calculated that parking is finished, it is deactivated automatically. Make additional manual corrections to the parking if you consider it necessary. As the driver, you decide if and when the car is parked correctly. As the driver, you are always responsible that the car is parked safely.
