Restarting your car's central computer

You may experience unexpected problems with you car, such as difficulty starting or charging. Restarting your car's central computer can help resolve these issues, just like a restart of your phone or laptop would.

You can restart your car's central computer in two ways:

Start by initiating an automatic restart. If this doesn't resolve your issues, try performing a manual restart.

Initiating an automatic restart

Step out of your car and lock it.
Move at least 20 meters away from your car. If the distance between your car key and your car is less, the car will remain in standby mode and won't fully shut down.
Keep the distance for a minimum of 10 minutes.
This will initiate a restart of your car's central computer.
Go back to your car and start it.
If the automatic restart didn't help resolve your issues, you can try a manual restart.

Performing a manual restart

 Note

It's recommended to only try a manual restart if you're having difficulty starting or charging your car.

 Note

The central computer can only be restarted once every 24 hours.
Please read the instructions before proceeding. Initiate the restart within 30 seconds of pressing the Park button (P), or an error message about the brakes may appear. If that happens, press the P-button again.

Put the car in Park by pressing the stalk button marked P.

Press down your foot on the brake pedal.

Simultaneously press and hold the EX30-24w04-Latest info-Minus symbol and EX90-24w50-Latest info-Increase volume symbol buttons on the steering wheel. You need to hold the buttons for approximately 10 seconds until the driver display shows the error message System communication failure.

When you see the System communication failure error message, release both buttons and your foot from the brake pedal.
Press the P-button on the stalk.
  • The displays turn off at the end of the restart process. When the System communication failure message reappears and then disappears, the restart process is complete. This can take around 1 minute.
  • An error message about the brakes may appear in the driver display after the restart. The message will disappear after a while, at the latest when the car has been locked and fully shut down, as mentioned under Initiating an automatic restart.
