The start of a new era, powered by Safe Space Technology.

Detecting other road users

The EX90 can help you detect vulnerable road users, even in complete darkness. Mounted on the roof, lidar works together with cameras and radars to detect other road users up to 250 metres ahead.

Helping you avoid collisions

Your car can detect and alert you of potential collisions so you can safely avoid them. If you don't respond, it can pre-charge the brakes to boost their performance once you react or help you steer away from the hazard.

Keeping you on track

Your car can help you avoid veering off your path by monitoring lane markings and the road’s edge. If you change lanes without indicating or drift off the road, it can issue alerts and gentle steering corrections.

Cutting-edge exterior sensing capabilities

Enhance your feeling of safety with lidar. It works together with cameras, radars and ultrasonic sensors to give a detailed image of what's going on around you.

Future technology and features are described and capabilities may vary. Features may not be available in all markets and will not be standard in all markets or for all models.

Lidar equipped on early production vehicles will begin in data collection mode and over time the technological capabilities of the lidar will expand to include additional sensing scenarios as part of our Safe Space Technology, including the ability to detect objects in darkness at highway speeds up to 250 metres.

A new era for safety and driver support

A bird’s-eye view of the EX90. Driving understanding sensors and cameras monitor the driver.Driver understanding

Inside your EX90, sensors and a touch-sensitive steering wheel pay attention to your eye and head movements as well as driving style. If, for some reason, your attention is no longer focused on driving, it can step in to help keep you safe. It does this on a few different levels depending on the context. If, for example, sensors detect that you might be drowsy, the car can display a message suggesting you take a break. The warning signals grow in volume with the severity of the situation. If you do not respond, it can safely bring the car to a stop in the lane and activate the hazard lights. It can also take this information on board when detecting potential collisions on the road and intervene at an earlier stage.

Get reminded of who is in the car to help prevent passengers from inadvertently being left behind. With radar sensors strategically placed throughout the cabin, our new occupant sensing system can detect sub-millimetre movement inside the car. If your EX90 senses that a person or animal is still in the car when you try to lock the doors, it can remain unlocked and send you a notification to remind you to check the interior. The car's climate system can remain on if people or animals are detected in the cabin to improve comfort and help lower the risk of hypothermia or heatstroke.

Park Pilot Assist

Let your Volvo take the wheel to help you park your car. Park Pilot Assist can find suitable parking spots when driving under 16km/h that you can accept with the touch of a button. Gently put your foot on the accelerator as your EX90 helps with the turning, gear shifting, acceleration and braking into parallel and perpendicular parking spots. You just need to keep a watchful eye to intervene if something unexpected happens. It can also support when driving out of tight parallel parking spots once you are ready to go.

Door opening alert

Avoid unforeseen accidents when opening the doors of your parked car. The radars on the rear of your Volvo can detect approaching cyclists and motorists from behind and alert anyone in the car who might be about to open their door. Your car can send you alerts in two stages. Initially, a warning light on the corresponding door mirror can illuminate. If a collision is imminent, the light can begin flashing with a warning sound.

360° camera

Get in and out of tight spots using the 3D birds-eye view on your centre display. Four cameras at the car's front, rear, left and right sides create an intuitive view of your surroundings. Call up the split-screen option to add a near-180° front or rear view for even greater visibility. If you are jumping into a reverse park, the rear-view camera can show you guiding lines to help ease you into place. Pinch to zoom so you can get a better view. This is particularly useful if you are reversing to attach a trailer.

High definition pixel headlights

Increase your comfort and reduce eye strain on other road users when driving at night. Advanced high-definition pixel headlight technology in the Volvo EX90 contain 1.3 million pixels that can alter the shape and intensity of light they omit. Together with your car’s front cameras, this technology can detect up to five cars and three other objects and automatically adjust the light directed at them for optimum visibility. This helps reduce glare and avoid dazzling other drivers on the road.

Staying centred

Relax into your drive by activating Pilot Assist. It adapts your speed and provides gentle steer assistance to help you stay centred in your lane and maintain a safe distance from the car in front.

Lane Change Assist

Stress less about changing lanes using Lane Change Assist. Tap your indicator, and your car can find a safe gap in traffic to help you steer into the other lane.

New generation Pilot Assist

Pilot Assist supports relaxed, yet focused driving by providing gentle steering, braking and acceleration adjustments, while you keep your hands on the wheel.

Driver support functions are not a substitute for the driver's attention and judgment. Brake intervention is only active at lower speeds. Driver remains responsible for safe driving at all times.

Intuitive comfort for a premium ride

A front-on image of a smartphone displaying the digital key feature within the Volvo Cars app.Welcome sequences

When you approach your EX90 carrying your digital key or key tag, the headlights and rear LED lamps greet you with a light sequence and a wink. The flush door handles will pop out and unlock as you get closer, and the ground lighting is activated. As you open the door, the interior lights will switch on together with a personal welcome message in the car displays.

Power-operated third-row seat

The third-row seats offer a comfortable ride with headrests and ample legroom for two passengers. Need extra load space? You can easily fold each of them down flat at the touch of a button.

Premium air suspension

Smoothly navigate along highways, tight turns and country roads with active air suspension. Dual air chamber suspension for all four wheels uses air rather than springs to keep your car level even when carrying an extra load or driving over bumps by continually adjusting the chassis. This gives you a premium ride with superior comfort. As you accelerate, it will automatically lower the car for improved aerodynamics and longer range. The electronically controlled damping system checks your driving style, speed and road conditions 500 times per second to make adjustments that improve comfort to help enhance the feeling of safety in your car. You can also lower the back of the car if you are packing the boot with heavy items or attaching a trailer.

A peaceful interior

Escape into silence in an SUV engineered to block out surrounding noise and vibration. The aerodynamic shell, premium air suspension, custom tyres, and state-of-the-art soundproofing bring a superior level of quiet to your EX90. So, you can calmly listen to backseat passengers, take full advantage of your Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity audio system, or restore your inner tranquillity.

Power your life beyond the road

Your EX90 is hardware-ready to power your home and support during power outages in some cases.

This technology has the potential to let you support a more balanced energy grid, for example, by taking in more energy when there´s a surplus of renewable energy or selling power back during peak usage hours when there is more demand.

Bi-directional charging

Initially rolling out in select markets, bi-directional charging has the potential to help power your house, your appliances or even return power to the energy grid.

Core computing

Onboard, two powerful core computers control all functions of your Volvo, rather than hundreds of small vehicle computers. This provides you with a lightweight yet robust and smoothly operating digital in-car network prepared for future upgrades like autonomous drive.

Future-proof mobility

Having a software-driven car means you can continually improve your car's performance, connectivity and safety through easy software updates, just as you would with your smartphone or laptop.

Convenient, over-the-air upgrades

Regular software updates improve the operating system and add new features to your car. All you need to do is accept the notification via the centre display so it can begin upgrading once your car is empty and locked.

Born smart, engineered to get even smarter
