Activating Plug & Charge

Before you can charge your car at a charging station that supports Plug & Charge, you need to activate the function with an e-mobility service provider and in the car's centre display.

Activating Plug & Charge with an e-mobility service provider

You need to sign up with an e-mobility service provider before activating Plug & Charge in the car. If you are using the Volvo public charging service (VPCS), then you already have a contract with Digital Charging Solutions (DCS), which is a provider that is partnered up with Volvo. See for more information.

You can also choose to sign up with a third-party e-mobility service provider that isn't Volvo's partner.

 Note

Users signed up with a third-party e-mobility service provider may receive limited support from Volvo support regarding Plug & Charge.
Follow the steps below to activate Plug & Charge with the VPCS provider:
In the Volvo Cars app, go to the map tab Px-2037-VOC app icon Map.
Select Plug & Charge and follow the instructions.
Follow the steps below to activate Plug & Charge with a third-party provider:

Find the car's unique PCID2 number in either the centre display or in the Volvo Cars app:

  • In the centre display, press the car symbol Px-2037-VOC app icon Car and go to Settings > Charging > Plug & Charge.
  • In the Volvo Cars app, go to the car tab Px-2037-VOC app icon Car > Plug & Charge.
Give the PCID to the third-party provider and follow any instructions they may have3.

Activating Plug & Charge in the car

You can activate Plug & Charge in the charging view in the centre display.

 Note

Even if Plug & Charge is included in the charging view, it may not be available in your country. This is because e-mobility service providers, charging stations and other infrastructure need to support Plug & Charge in your country before it can be used.
Press the car symbol Px-2037-VOC app icon Car and go to Settings.
Go to Charging > Plug & Charge.
Turn the function on.
Connect your car at a public charging station that supports Plug & Charge.

The contract certificate is installed through the cable and the authorisation and payment are handled by the car and the charging station. You can see the status in the driver display and the charge port during the installation.

The charging session starts when the authorisation is finished.

You can find your certificate under Charging account. If you turn Plug & Charge off after installing a contract, the function deactivates.
