In our campaign for International Women’s Day, our employees – from the Charleston factory to the Gothenburg offices – share a powerful message to young women considering a career in tech.
“Girls of the world, you’re in the driver’s seat now!”
At Volvo Cars, equality, equity and inclusion are essential parts of our culture. Ever since the 1950’s we have brought together diverse people from all over the world to design, develop and build our cars. Not only because we are a caring and human-centric company, but because we know it makes us better.
Right now, we’re going through our biggest transformation ever, shifting from being strictly an automotive company to becoming more of a tech and software company. To succeed, we will of course need new competencies – but we also need people with different backgrounds, perspectives and experiences.
“One of the ways we’re trying to achieve this is by attracting more women to our company.”
One of the ways we’re trying to achieve this is by attracting more women to our company. To find upcoming stars, we’re actively working with various age groups, particularly focusing on inspiring young girls in the so-called STEM fields – short for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
In early 2023, we partnered with Girls Who Code, a US-based nonprofit dedicated to closing the gender gap in technology. Since 2012, the organisation has reached 500,000 students through in-person and virtual programming. They’re on a mission to inspire, educate and equip students who identify as girls or nonbinary with the computing skills needed by companies all over the world today.
This latest campaign is a step in the same direction. So do your part and pass this video on to someone you know!
