International Pride Month celebrations are coming to an end, but our efforts to create safe spaces for everyone at Volvo Cars continue.
Pride month celebration at Volvo Cars
At Volvo Cars, International Pride Month is a time for celebration of diversity and our people. It’s an opportunity to recognise the challenges that members of the LGBTQ+ community are facing every day – and to raise awareness on how we can make our workplace a safe space for everyone. Because we know that feeling safe allows us to think differently, be different and have the freedom to be.
And hey, did we paint the town red! Or to be more accurate, in all colours of the rainbow. In offices and plants around the world, we came together in parades and celebrations, joined global webinars to discuss how to create safe spaces for everyone, and shared personal stories on what it’s like to be part of the LGBTQ+ community at Volvo Cars.
Celebration on wheels around the world
Naturally, our Volvo cars wouldn’t miss out on the Pride parades. In Charleston, US (where one of our plants is located), a rainbow-decorated EX40 joined the proud crowd of our colleagues in the parade. During West Pride, Sweden, the rain didn’t stop car enthusiasts from admiring our elegant Volvo 780, parading along the streets of Gothenburg together with our fully electric moss yellow EX30.
We all deserve to feel safe at work, not just during Pride month – but all the time.
From Pride parades around our offices in Mahwah, New York and Toronto, to educating activities in our India Tech Hub in Bangalore, celebration comes in different shapes and colours. All with the purpose of promoting inclusivity and support for the LGBTQ+ community.
In the spirit of supporting, we’ve got an employee safe travel guide which includes information and resources for our LGBTQ+ community when conducting business travels. To help raise awareness, we’ve also launched global e-learnings for our employees about Pride and the concept of allyship – a term used to describe an individual who is supportive of LGBTQ+ individuals and the community. And there’s more to come.
We have a new partner
We’re glad to announce a new partnership with Stonewall – a prominent LGBTQ+ rights charity based in the UK – which provides guidance and support to facilitate inclusive workplace environments. The partnership will entail reviews of our policies, directives and guidelines to safeguard that we’re integrating diversity and inclusion into all parts of our business.
“Stonewall has a vast bank of information and tools,” says Hanna Fager, our chief people officer. “I’m confident that with the expertise and commitment from our Volvo Cars Global Pride Network, and the resources available through the organisation, we will boost our purpose-driven culture to the next level.”
At Volvo Cars, everyone should have the freedom to be their authentic self. We’re always on the lookout for people who share our values and want to help us shape the future of mobility – check out our Careers site.
