Locking and unlocking

The car can lock and unlock manually or automatically, depending on what keys you use and what behaviours or options you have selected in settings.

You have a wide range of security and access options available in settings. You can choose to lock and unlock manually or automatically, depending on your selections in the display and the type of key you are using.

In most cases, the driver door controls locking and unlocking, using touch sensors in the door handle.

Manual locking is required when using a key card.

Unresponsive unlock

If the car has been turned off for a long time, it may take several seconds for the car to unlock. This is because the car needs time to turn its systems back on, to recognise the key and to give you access.

If the car's batteries go completely flat, it will not respond to any key.

 Warning

Volvo recommends not leaving people or pets in a locked car. The driver is always fully responsible for the well-being and safety of anyone left inside. Some regions have laws prohibiting people or pets being left inside a locked vehicle.
