Gearbox

Your car has an automatic gearbox, meaning that gears are selected automatically so that you can drive as efficiently as possible.

The available gears are:
RReverse
NNeutral
DDrive
MManual
PPark

Having an automatic gearbox means that you don't have to change gears manually while driving. When driving in gear D, the car adjusts the gear depending on your driving speed and the power requirements.

Manual shifting

Manual shifting is available in gear M. Once selected, you can shift up or down by moving the gear selector to the left or right. If you drive too slow in relation to your selected gear, the car will automatically shift to a lower gear to avoid jerking and stalling.

 Note

Kick-down acceleration

By pressing the accelerator pedal all the way down, beyond the position normally regarded as full acceleration, you activate the kick-down feature. Your car will shift down to a lower gear, enabling faster acceleration. This can be helpful if you are about to overtake another vehicle.

Once the accelerator pedal is released, the car will shift up to the appropriate gear again.

Parking gear

The parking gear can be automatically selected in situations where your car interprets your actions as if you're about to park and leave. These situations can include:
  • Turning your car off when stationary in gear D or R.
  • Unbuckling your seatbelt and opening the driver's door while the car is moving slowly without you using the brake or accelerator pedals.

You can also select the parking gear by pressing the P button next to the gear selector.

When P is selected, the gearbox is mechanically blocked to avoid accidental gear shifts.

 Important

Parking brake

The parking gear and the parking brake are not the same thing. While the parking gear is capable of holding the car stationary to a certain degree, it is not sufficient in all situations. Be sure to engage the parking brake after parking, as its applied braking force is much larger. This is particularly important when parking on an incline.

Gearbox-related faults

If a fault is detected with the gearbox, such as overheating, this is communicated with a message in the driver display. Make sure to follow any instructions in the message.
