Get Ready for the Volvo Padel Open!

We're counting down to the Volvo Padel Open, the first and largest official padel open in Malaysia!

Held in partnership with all Klang Valley padel clubs – ASCARO Padel & Social Club, Padelground, and PadelKu – the inaugural Volvo Padel Open will give more than 160 teams the chance to vie for glory and stand to win cash, official merchandise, and the chance to experience the latest Volvo electric cars.

As the fastest growing sport in the world, padel has over 25 million players in 110 countries as of 2023 and has roots all the way back to the 1960s. Padel has evolved greatly over the decades with new technology and gameplay, which is why it attracts a growing number of enthusiasts with its fast, modern gameplay and social camaraderie as a doubles game.

Registration & Fees

You will need to register for the Volvo Padel Open as a team (2 players). Registration has closed on Friday, 24 May 2024.

FEES
- RM200 per team of 2 players.
- A special rate of RM100 per team of 2 players if at least one player is a Volvo car owner.
- Each player is entitled to participation in the tournament, the official sports kit, complimentary usage of padel racquets and balls during matches, and access to the grand finals at ASCARO Padel & Social Club on the 15th of June 2024.

ASSESSMENT
- The answers you provided in the skill assessment questionnaire during registration will determine the category your team is eligible for.

CANCELLATIONS AND SUBSTITUTIONS
- Strictly no refunds for cancellations, no-shows, walkovers, and forfeitures.
- You are not allowed to transfer, sell or swap your entry or change categories.
- No player substitutions are allowed after registration closure on Friday, 24 May 2024.

You are not allowed to participate if you belong to the following:
- Directors and employees of the organiser and the event partners, contractors, affiliates, appointed agents or agencies, business partners, suppliers, representatives, and their immediate families.
- Professional padel players and coaches.
- Below the age of 18.
- Pregnant women.

Categories

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis depending on your team pairing and player level.

Padel Skill Rating

Your prowess at padel will determine which category your team is eligible to participate in and the potential grand prize you stand to win!

Your answers in the skills assessment during registration will give us an indication of your team’s skill level. We hope you have answered truthfully in the spirit of good sportsmanship as we reserve the right to disqualify teams who intentionally misrepresent their actual level.

- Any team with at least 1 intermediate player defaults to the Intermediate category only.
- Any team with 2 female players can choose the Women’s category.

Game Format & Rules

All matches in the Volvo Padel Open are played in doubles format only according to the prevailing rules of the sport.

To ensure matches start and end on time, most matches in the Volvo Padel Open will be played with a custom scoring system within a set time. You will be briefed on the scoring and time frame before your match starts.

There will be umpires and scorekeepers throughout matches, but it is also your responsibility to keep score and be vigilant, calling out faults and errors in fairness to your team and your opponents.

Remember, the umpire still has the final say!

Open Qualifiers (8 to 9 June 2024)

i) Open Qualifiers will be played with 113 teams over two (2) days and three (3) venues on Saturday, 8th June 2024 and Sunday, 9th June 2024.
ii) Qualifiers will be held in a group system round-robin format, with each team playing a minimum of two (2) games. Within a group, the team with the most match wins at the end of the round-robin advances to Open Playoffs on Saturday, 15th June 2024 at ASCARO Padel & Social Club.
iii) Games will employ a simple scoring format (0,1,2,3,4…) with points awarded for every win.
iv) The team with the highest points after ten (10) minutes wins the match.
v) If both teams have the same score at ten (10) minutes, the match will end with one (1) decisive winning point from either team.
vi) Each team plays one match against each other in the same group, with points to be awarded as follows:
- Win: 3 points
- Loss: 0 points
vii) The ranking in each group is determined in the following order:
- Most number of wins obtained in the group;
- Point difference across all group matches (total points scored minus points conceded);
- Most number of points scored across all group matches;
- Least number of points conceded across all group matches;
- Coin toss to serve and play for one (1) decisive point.
viii) The Open Qualifiers will produce a total of thirty-two (32) winning teams with the breakdown of the teams as follows:
- Day 1: ASCARO: Eight (8) winners
- Day 1: Padelground: Six (6) winners
- Day 1: Padelku: Four (4) winners
- Day 2: ASCARO: Six (6) winners
- Day 2: Padelground: Three (3) winners
- Day 2: Padelku: Two (2) winners
- Three (3) second best teams from ASCARO & Padelground
ix) The three second-best teams from ASCARO & Padelground are determined in the following order:
ASCARO (2 teams)
- Second-most number of wins obtained across all groups in Day 1 and Day 2;
- Second-most point difference across all groups in Day 1 and Day 2;
- Second-most number of points scored across all groups in Day 1 and Day 2.
Padelground (1 team)
- Second-most number of wins obtained across all groups in Day 1 and Day 2;
- Second-most point difference across all groups in Day 1 and Day 2;
- Second-most number of points scored across all groups in Day 1 and Day 2;
x) If two or more teams are equal based on the above criteria, the second-best rankings will be determined by the second-lowest number of points conceded across all group matches.

Open Playoffs (15 June 2024)

i) The Open playoffs will start with thirty-two (32) teams on Saturday, 15th June 2024.
ii) All matches will be played via elimination.
iii) Games will employ a simple scoring format (0,1,2,3,4…) with points awarded for every win.
iv) The team with the most points after ten (10) minutes wins the match.
v) If both teams have the same score at ten (10) minutes, the match will end with one (1) decisive winning point from either team.

Intermediate Playoffs (15 June 2024)

i) The Intermediate playoffs will start with thirty-two (32) teams on Saturday, 15th June 2024.
ii) All matches will be played via elimination.
iii) Games will employ a simple scoring format (0,1,2,3,4…) with points awarded for every win.
iv) The team with the most points after ten (10) minutes wins the match and proceeds to the next level.
v) If both teams have the same score at ten (10) minutes, the match will end with one (1) decisive winning point from either team.

Women’s Playoffs (15 June 2024)

i) The Women’s playoffs will start with sixteen (16) teams on Saturday, 15th June 2024.
ii) All matches will be played via elimination.
iii) Games will employ a simple scoring format (0,1,2,3,4…) with points awarded for every win.
iv) The team with the most points after ten (10) minutes wins the match and proceeds to the next level.
v) If both teams have the same score at ten (10) minutes, the match will end with one (1) decisive winning point from either team.

Finals – Open, Intermediate and Women’s categories (15 June 2024)

i) The final match for the Open, Intermediate and Women’s categories will be played with standard padel scoring, similar to tennis (0, 15, 30, 40…).
ii) If in a game, both teams are tied at game point at 40/40 (“40-all” or “deuce”), the match will end with one (1) decisive winning point from either team (“golden point”). No deuces (i.e., a two (2) point lead to win the match) will be played.
iii) The first team to win six (6) games wins the set. The first team to win two (2) out of three (3) sets wins the match. Each set has no tiebreaker.

Through the leaderboard, you can view current scores and who you’ll be facing next on court. We’ll be grouping teams in a randomised order to ensure equal distribution and fairness throughout the tournament.

It’s your responsibility to keep an eye on your groupings, tournament dates and venues, and match times. We strongly encourage you to be present throughout the day during tournament days and present yourself to our officials at least 30 minutes before the estimated start of your matches so you don’t lose your spot due to automatic forfeitures.

The champion and runner-up teams from each category stand to win cash, exclusive Volvo merchandise, and the opportunity to experience a fully electric Volvo for up to 2 weeks!

*Volvo Experience entails the loan of a fully electric Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric or Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, subject to availability of cars and dates. Each winning player is entitled to one loan.

Your sports kit includes:
- Official t-shirt (to be worn during matches)
- RM30 F&B voucher valid during the Open Qualifiers on 8 to 9 June 2024 at your chosen venue of either Paloma (at ASCARO), NOA (at Padelground), or PadelKu

- Housekeeping card
- Tote bag

You are not allowed to collect your sports kit from any other venue apart from the one you selected during registration. No t-shirt size exchanges are allowed.

Coaching Clinics

Padel is a great sport that caters to all skill levels, but it’s always good to get the basics right before your match!

If you have signed up for the Open or the Women’s category, you have the choice to join our free padel coaching clinics on a first-come, first-served basis.

Dates: Saturday, 1 June 2024 to Sunday, 2 June 2024
Venue: ASCARO Padel & Social Club, Padelground, PadelKu

Clinic sessions are held for one hour with 12 participants per session, per court from 9:00am, 10:00am, 3:00pm, 6:00pm, and 7:00pm.

Important notes:
- Only Open and Women’s category players are eligible.
- You must have signed up for the clinic during your registration.
- Be present at least 30 minutes before your registered session.
- Bring a valid identification document for registration.
- No swapping of sessions allowed without prior notice.
- If you’re late or cannot attend a session, we may put you on a waitlist for the remainder of the sessions but cannot guarantee a slot.
- Only 1 clinic session allowed per registration.

Open Qualifiers

With the most players (113 teams), matches for the Open category will begin with qualifying rounds in the preceding week to the finals.

Dates: Saturday, 8 June 2024 and Sunday, 9 June 2024
Venue: ASCARO Padel & Social Club, Padelground OR PadelKu

Do check the Leaderboard from Thursday, 30 May 2024 to know your grouping and most importantly, the date and time you must be present at your selected venue for your matches.

Qualifiers will be held in a round-robin format where each team will start with a minimum of two (2) games. The qualifiers will produce a total of thirty-two (32) winning teams, with the breakdown of the teams as follows:
- Day 1: ASCARO: Eight (8) winners
- Day 1: Padelground: Six (6) winners
- Day 1: Padelku: Four (4) winners
- Day 2: ASCARO: Six (6) winners
- Day 2: Padelground: Three (3) winners

Grand Finals

The grand finals of the Volvo Padel Open will see the best players from the Open, Intermediate and Women’s category battling to the top!

Venue: ASCARO Padel & Social Club

Even if you aren’t playing or have been eliminated from the tournament, all registered participants of the Volvo Padel Open are still welcome to watch the action courtside while enjoying exclusive hospitality, complimentary food and beverages from Volvo, and an exhibition match between professional padel players.

If you’re in the Intermediate or Women’s categories or one of the top winning teams from the Open Qualifiers, do check the Leaderboard from Thursday, 30 May 2024 to know your grouping and time you must be present for your matches.

*All teams will be given 5 minutes to warm up before the start of their matches.

What to Wear and Do

What to Wear
- You are strongly encouraged to wear the official Volvo Padel Open t-shirt included in your sports kit during matches.
- We recommend you wear comfortable sports bottoms (e.g. tennis shorts, track pants or tennis skirts), and durable sports shoes during matches. Open-toe footwear, slippers, flip-flops, sandals and bare feet are not allowed for your safety.
- During tournament days, you will be given wrist tags to identify your team number and category. Don’t remove it or transfer it to another player.
- Bring towels and a change of clothing for your comfort between matches. Shower facilities are available at ASCARO and Padelground.

What to Do
- Stay well hydrated and nourished throughout your matches.
- Be responsible for the safekeeping of your personal belongings.
- Padel is a social game, and you should uphold good sportsmanship both on and off-court. Don’t use abusive, offensive, harassing, threatening or inappropriate language to opponents, staff, and partners of the event, which can be grounds for immediate disqualification.
- Most importantly, enjoy yourself!

Participant Safety & Health

We will take every precaution for your safety but remember that you compete at your own risk. The organisers will not be held responsible or liable for any injury or death arising from training in preparation for and/or participation in the Volvo Padel Open.

We encourage you to:
- Go for a medical checkup or consult a medical doctor if you are unsure of your fitness.
- Have adequate personal accident and injury insurance.
- Stay nourished and hydrated during matches.
- Inform the organiser and/or the umpire/officials if you have an existing medical condition or are feeling unwell before, during or after your matches.
- Don’t drink and drive – arrange for a taxi, e-hailing, or carpool with a designated driver if you intend to drink.
- Don't play if you are pregnant.

We will halt any match at any point if we believe that one or more players are unfit to continue, so please be honest about your physical wellbeing and stay safe!

FAQs

Here’s a list of frequently asked questions and answers:

I signed up for the Volvo Padel Open but cannot attend. Can I get a refund?

No. Refunds are not allowed under any circumstances. If you cannot participate in the tournament itself, you are still entitled to claim the official sports kit and access to the grand finals at ASCARO Padel & Social Club on Saturday, 15 June 2024.

Am I allowed to swap players?

The window for player substitutions has been closed together with the last day for registration.

My teammate can’t attend or has pulled out. What can I do?

Unfortunately you are not allowed to substitute a team player after Friday, 24 May 2024. However, you are still entitled to claim the official sports kit and attend the grand finals at ASCARO Padel & Social Club on Saturday, 15 June 2024.

When can I collect my sports kit?

You can collect your sports kit between Saturday, 25 May 2024 to Saturday, 15 June 2024 at the venue you registered for. No t-shirt size exchanges are allowed.

Can I wear another top other than the official t-shirt?

For your safety and to help us identify participants, you are strongly encouraged to wear the official t-shirt included in your sports kit. You are responsible to maintain and launder it between tournament days.

I’m in the Open category. Which dates should I take note of?

Open qualifiers will be held on Saturday, 8 June 2024 and Sunday, 9 June 2024 at the venue you registered for. If you qualify as one of the 32 top teams of that weekend, you will play at the grand finals on Saturday, 15 June 2024 at ASCARO Padel & Social Club.

If you have registered for the coaching clinics, please be punctual for your slot on either Saturday, 1 June 2024 or Sunday, 2 June 2024.

I’m in the Intermediate/Women’s category. Which dates should I take note of?

Your only tournament date is Saturday, 15 June 2024 at ASCARO Padel & Social Club.

If you are in the Women’s category and have registered for the coaching clinics, please be punctual for your slot on either Saturday, 1 June 2024 or Sunday, 2 June 2024.

Can I bring a friend to watch me play?

Yes, you can! There are no limits during the coaching clinics and Open qualifiers, but only one guest is allowed per participant on the grand finals on Saturday, 15 June 2024 at ASCARO Padel & Social Club. Please register your guest when you sign up.

Will there be complimentary F&B during matches?

Yes, during the grand finals on Saturday, 15 June 2024 at ASCARO Padel & Social Club.

During the Open qualifiers, you can redeem food and beverage items with the RM30 voucher included in your sports kit.

Do I have to bring my own padel equipment?

No, you don’t. Usage of padel racquets and balls from our partner court providers will be complimentary throughout the coaching clinics, open qualifiers, and the grand finals.

How will I know when I’ll be playing?

Please check out the official Leaderboard at https://padel.volvocarmalaysia.com/ which will be live from Thursday, 30 May 2024.

I would like to attend the coaching clinics but didn’t sign up. Can I still come?

The coaching clinics are for Open and Women’s category participants who have signed up during registration, and on a first-come, first-served basis. We cannot guarantee slots and you may be put on a waitlist until an available slot opens up, such as in the event of a last-minute dropout.

Terms & Conditions

In consideration of the acceptance of your participation, you, your heirs, successors and assignees, do hereby unconditionally and irrevocably waive and release the Organiser, the Event Partners, their Agencies, as well as all persons, contractors, agents, service providers, volunteers and agencies connected from all complains, demands, claims, liabilities, proceedings, suits, losses and/or damages of any kind whatsoever due to or relating to or arising directly or indirectly out of your participation in the Tournament, including without limitation, personal injury and/or death.

The Organiser reserves the right to unilaterally add on, modify or substitute any of the terms and conditions at any time as it deems fit without prior notice. If there is ambiguity in any of the provisions, the Organiser shall be the sole authority which has the absolute, full and complete power to interpret it as it deems fit.

If you cannot accept these terms and conditions or the risks associated with the Tournament, please do not proceed further with registration. By participating in the Tournament, you have read and understood the rules and regulations and agree to participate on the understanding that you must adhere to all the rules and regulations stipulated.

By participating in the Tournament, you acknowledge you have read all the terms and conditions and agree that if you do not adhere to any terms and conditions stated above, the Organisers of the Event may refuse your participation and/or access to entitlements of the Event and claims thereto.
