The 2023 Carlist.my Car of the Year Award commemorates another exceptional year of automotive excellence with two award categories – the People’s Choice Award and Editors’ Choice Award – which saw Volvo Car Malaysia taking home two accolades in the former.

This year, the Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric led its category, being named ‘Best Sub-Compact Premium SUV’ and ‘Best Compact Premium Electric Vehicle (EV)’. Carlist.my’s People’s Choice Award category is unique in that it fully depends on votes from the general public, which makes the recognition received by Volvo Car Malaysia all the more meaningful knowing it represents the vox populi of Malaysian car owners.

Charles Frump, Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia, said: “The two awards given to our Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric speak volumes of Malaysian owners’ preference for a compact, fully electric SUV that doesn’t compromise on our foundation of safety for people and the planet, and represent our customers’ unwavering trust in the Volvo brand. I have heartfelt gratitude to everyone who voted for us and thank Carlist.my for hosting yet another year of recognition of automotive excellence.”

Introduced in 2022, the Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric is the first locally assembled electric vehicle in Malaysia. The Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric offers 438km** of pure electric drive and a DC fast charging rate of up to 150kW***, allowing a 10% to 80% state of charge in just 28 minutes, offering drivers a pure driving experience that does not forgo power or comfort.

Meanwhile, the Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric – which was also introduced in 2022 – shares the same dual electric motor setup as the Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric and mirrors the former’s success, having received three media car-of-the-year accolades to-date. These awards are a nod to car owners’ confidence in Volvo’s electric vehicles and signify a shift towards electric mobility and a sustainable lifestyle.

From now until 31 January 2024, Volvo Car Malaysia will offer an instant cash rebate of up to RM25,000 for customers who place an order on the award-winning Volvo XC40 Recharge Pure Electric; or RM16,000 for the Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric.
