Software updates

Updating your car’s software ensures that it remains up to date with the latest features and improvements.

Software updates are primarily done over the air (OTA) and all previous updates are included when you install a new update. Keep in mind that you may be charged for installing software updates at a Volvo dealer unless installation is included in your repair or service agreement.

When a new update is available, you will see a notification in the display and in the Volvo EX30 app. The notification gives you an estimation of how long it will take to install the update and tells you what’s included in it.

After installing a software update, the car’s features may vary depending on the market, model, model year and specification.

The software in the cars is being continuously developed to enhance your Volvo experience. Once a software update is available, you will find it here along with any previous updates.

Apple CarPlay

Apple CarPlay is now available. You can use it to connect your iPhone to your car wirelessly and access iPhone apps via the main area of the display in the car.

To start using it, you need connect your iPhone to your car via Bluetooth and then activate Apple CarPlay either through your iPhone or by opening the CarPlay app.

To activate CarPlay:

If you’ve already connected your iPhone to the car you need to remove it first. You can do this on the Bluetooth settings page.
1. Open the app library in the car by pressing the app symbol at the bottom of the display.
2. Open the CarPlay app. You’ll be prompted to add a Bluetooth device – accept this to be directed to the Bluetooth settings.
3. Press “Add another device” and open the Bluetooth settings on your iPhone. Then follow the instructions in the display and on the iPhone screen.
4. Once your iPhone is connected, Apple CarPlay will be available on the home screen.

You can prevent CarPlay from starting automatically by going to Bluetooth settings, then phone settings and then disconnecting the CarPlay app.

When CarPlay is active you can interact with Siri by pressing and holding the voice control button on the steering wheel for a few seconds. You can read more about Apple CarPlay in the User manual.

Welcome View

The new Welcome View will greet you when you enter the car. It gives you quick access to some of the most common personalisation settings, like adjusting mirrors or the exterior lights, driving settings like One pedal drive and Lane keeping aid and more.

To close the Welcome view, just put the car in gear or press the home button in the bottom left.

Adapt to speed limit

This feature will automatically adjust the speed limit to match the road speed limit when you’re using Pilot Assist or Adaptive Cruise Control. You can activate it in the Driving settings menu.

Improved Radio reception – We’ve also improved the reception for both DAB and FM radio.
Road Sign Information – improved performance.
Waze (third party app) – blocking issue while driving is now solved.

Software release date: 19 June 2024. You will be notified when you can install this software update, normally within 3 weeks of the software release date.

More Key tags

You can now add more than one key tag to a car, making it easier to share access with friends and family.

System Quick Controls

We’ve added quick access to System Quick Controls. Just press the top-right corner of the display, near the navigation, Wi-Fi and connectivity icons. This will allow you to quickly manage settings like your Bluetooth devices and adjusting the brightness of the display.

Other improvements:

You can now lock and unlock the glove box with a password.
The air conditioning system now accounts for sunlight when you set a specific temperature.
The charging cable now disconnects more smoothly when you unlock your car.
Improved efficiency when charging at temperatures below -20°C.
Improvements to Car wash mode.
Updates to Driver Alert functionality and to features in Quick controls.
Bug fixes that do not affect performance or other certified properties.

Car wash mode

You can now activate car wash mode in the Settings menu. Go to Controls, Car modes and Car wash mode to activate it. It deactivates automatically if the car is moving faster than 20 km/h (12 mph). However, to ensure that all car features are available to you, it's recommended to deactivate car wash mode manually before you reach a public road.

Car wash mode helps you get ready for using an automatic car wash by closing the windows, turning the wipers off, folding the wing mirrors in and activating air recirculation.

If you’ve set a maximum current limit for charging, the car will now remember this between driving cycles.
The rear view of the parking camera now has more natural colours.
Improvements to the radio, including better reception.
Several bug fixes that do not affect performance or other certified properties.

Updates in software 1.2.1

Software release date: 2024-02-09. The software will be available through OTA within two to three weeks after the software release date.

You can write and send text messages using voice control via the digital assistant1. If you receive a text message, a notification will appear in the display.
The accuracy of the estimated battery level upon arrival to a selected navigation destination has been improved.
An issue which says that type 2 connectors are not compatible with your EX30 when searching for charging stations in Google Maps has been solved.
The software release notes are available in the car after installing this update. They’re also available in the Volvo EX30 app and on the Volvo Cars support website.
In cars equipped with the QuantumLogic surround sound system, the default setting for QuantumLogic surround is now Off instead of Medium. The selected level is saved for your active profile.
