Operating the moonroof*

When opened automatically, the sun shade and moonroof open completely.

In the tilt (ventilation) position, the rear edge of the moonroof is raised.

Operation

 Warning

  • During manual closing, if the moonroof is obstructed, immediately open it again.
  • Never open or close the moonroof if it is obstructed in any way.
  • Never allow a child to operate the moonroof.
  • Never leave a child alone in a vehicle.
  • When leaving the vehicle, ensure that the ignition is in mode 0 (see the article "Ignition modes" for additional information) to disable the moonroof. Never leave the remote key in the vehicle.
  • Never extend any object or body part though the open moonroof, even if the vehicle's ignition is completely switched off.

 Important

  • Remove ice and snow before opening the moonroof.
  • Do not operate the moonroof if it is frozen closed.
  • Never place heavy objects on the moonroof.

Manual operation

Opening the moonroof: Pull the control back to the first stop (the manual open position) to open the moonroof to the position of your choice: Holding the control will open the moonroof to the "comfort" position that helps reduce wind noise while driving. Pull the switch again to slide open the moonroof completely.

The moonroof will stop if the control is released or when it reaches the comfort position.

Perform this procedure in reverse order to close the moonroof.

Automatic operation

To open the moonroof, pull the control as far back as possible (to the auto open position) and release it. The moonroof will open to the "comfort" position that helps reduce wind noise while driving. Pull the control again to open the moonroof completely.

The moonroof will stop when it reaches the "comfort" position, the fully open position or the closed position.

Perform this procedure in reverse order to close the moonroof.

Closing using an outside door handle1

To close the moonroof when locking the vehicle, hold the pressure sensitive surface on the outside of a door handle until the moonroof has closed completely. It will stop if the button on the door handle is released before it is fully closed. (This also applies to the windows).

Sun shade

The moonroof has a sun shade that can be opened and closed manually. The sun shade opens automatically along with the moonroof. To close it, grasp its handle and pull forward.

Pinch protection (auto-stop)

The moonroof has a pinch protection feature that is triggered if the moonroof is blocked in any way when it is being closed. In this case, the moonroof will stop and reverse automatically approximately 2 in. (5 cm) from the point at which it was blocked (or will open fully to the tilt position).

The pinch protection feature also functions when the moonroof is being opened.

 Warning

If the pinch protection (auto-stop) feature has been triggered, the moonroof can still be operated once more within 10 seconds without pinch protection. Pinch protection can be overridden if the closing procedure has been interrupted (e.g., due to ice around the moonroof) by pressing and holding the control forward/downward until the moonroof is closed.
