The towbar can be used for connecting trailers or attaching objects to the car, such as bike racks. For safety reasons, it is important to carefully follow the instructions for using the towbar.
You can unlock the towbar by pressing the towbar release button. This allows the towbar to be extended or folded away. You can find the button on the right-hand side of the boot's interior, on the small button panel.
Note
Towing eye
As your car is equipped with a towbar, it only has a towing eye mount at the front of the car. The towbar replaces the need for a rear towing eye.
Tip
Status light
- A constant light means that the towbar is ready to be unlocked.
- A flashing light indicates that the towbar has been released but not locked yet.
After a while, the status light turns off to save power. Close and open the boot hatch again to restart it. If the car detects a connected trailer, the status light turns off and the towbar release button is disabled.
Warning
Do not press the release button if anything is attached to the towbar.
Do not stand too closely to the middle rear of the car while releasing the towbar.
Extending the towbar
Manually pull the towbar to its end position.
If the towbar doesn't lock, let go of it and wait a few seconds before trying again.
Warning
Make sure the towbar is securely locked in position before attaching anything to it.
Always attach the trailer's safety wire or chain to the towbar's safety wire attachment bracket.
When you don't need the towbar anymore, fold it back in by following the same steps as when deploying it. First press the towbar release button to unlock it and then, after waiting a few seconds, push the towbar to its folded position.
Important
Always ensure that the towbar is retracted when not in use.
If there appears to be any functional problems with the towbar, do not attempt to resolve the problem yourself. An authorised Volvo workshop is recommended for any repairs or servicing. Contact Volvo support to schedule an appointment.
