Your car can automatically engage the parking brake in several situations. These include when:
- you select the parking gear, P, when stationary on a steep incline.
- your car has been stationary in auto hold for a longer period of time.
- you leave you car or turn it off while auto hold is active.
Tip
Automatic parking brake release
The parking brake is automatically released when you press the accelerator after selecting gear D or R. You must also have your seatbelt buckled or the driver door closed.
Manually engaging the parking brake
After coming to a stop, pull the parking brake switch in the tunnel console.
The parking brake is engaged. The P on the parking gear button lights up and the parking brake symbol is shown in the driver display.
Manually releasing the parking brake
Press the brake pedal firmly.
Push the parking brake switch .
The parking brake is released and the parking brake symbol in the driver display disappears.
