Performing a factory reset of a pre-owned car

If the previous owner of your car has not removed their profiles and connected phones, a factory reset of the car is needed. You can do this yourself via the car's centre display or ask the previous owner to do it via the Volvo Cars/Volvo EX30 app.

 Note

It is recommended to ask the previous owner to remove the car in the Volvo Cars/Volvo EX30 app. Removing the car in the app will initiate a factory reset of the car.

If you are selling your car and want to perform a factory reset via the Volvo Cars app1, see Removing a car in the Volvo Cars app for more information.

The instructions for a factory reset vary depending on car model and model year, so make sure to read the section that applies to your car.

 Note

A factory reset will remove all phones paired with your car, reset the car to factory values and remove all data and settings stored in the car.
Follow these steps for EX30 or EX90 cars:
Press the car symbol Px-2037-VOC app icon Car.
Press the profile icon in the middle of the screen.
Select the owner profile (the first profile created).
You will be redirected to the home screen.
Press the home symbol Px-2037-VOC app icon Home.
Press the car symbol Px-2037-VOC app icon Car.
  • For EX30: Go to Settings > System > Reset options > Reset car and follow the instructions.
  • For EX90: Go to Settings > System > Reset options > Erase all data (factory reset) and follow the instructions.
The car is now reset to factory values.

Contact Volvo support or a Volvo dealer to report the new ownership. This is important for registering you as the new owner in Volvo's system and to receive the full offering of services.
